What it actually says
Hasher, Goldstein, and Toppino showed that repetition can increase perceived validity. Later work finds the effect even for some statements that conflict with stored knowledge, though knowledge and attention still matter.
The effect does not mean audiences passively accept everything. It identifies one cue in judgment and explains why repeating a myth during correction can carry a cost unless the factual alternative is made salient.
